Some things come back, like 90’s pop bands and action movie reboots.
Other things don’t, and once they’re gone, they’re gone…
Weak nature laws have left our wildlifeat risk of extinction. With an election coming up, you can demand more from our leaders.
Now is the opportunity to demand stronger laws to protect our wild places and wild animals as the government considers its next move following the second independent review of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), and other parties decide what they would do if they were in government.
So far the federal government has been trying to bypass the recommendations the Review made to improve the EPBC Act and instead rush to hand over poorly constrained environmental approval powers to individual states and territories without strong national environmental standards, and without genuine independent oversight and regulation.
This move could spell disaster for nature. Weak, fractured and inconsistent decision making allowing ongoing habitat destruction is not what the environment deserves.
Some things don’t come back. Nature needs stronger laws…before some of our most iconic species are gone forever.
Tell your federal MP and senators to create laws that actually protect our wildlife.
