Rick and Susanne Ulyatt are the owners of Wildlife Mountain, a property located approximately 25km East of Byron Bay. The property is primarily a dedicated wildlife sanctuary; with additional uses including education and native wildlife rehabilitation and release. It is Rick and Susanne’s intent to continue with their current native wildlife rehabilitation and care efforts on the property, which have been undertaken for the past 14 years.
The sanctuary covers approximately 24 hectares, primarily featuring eucalypt and rainforest species among other native vegetation. The wildlife species present includes a wide variety of native birds and lizards as well as lace monitors (Varanus varius), red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) and swamp (Wallabia bicolor) wallabies, brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), short beaked echidas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) and long-nosed bandicoots (Perameles nasuta). Wildlife Mountain is situated nearby the Nightcap National Park and is part of a large area of connected remnant vegetation.
