Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / NSW / Summersea

Linda Mayer is the owner of Summersea, a property located in Pyree, approximately 10km South-East of Nowra, New South Wales.  Among the property’s purposes are acting as a small horse stud and being a dedicated wildlife sanctuary.  It is Linda’s intent for Summersea to remain a sanctuary for wildlife, and she hopes to further the property’s role as such through two vegetated wildlife corridors currently being built with Landcare.

The sanctuary covers approximately 41.7 hectares made up of around 14 hectares of prime dairy country, with the rest being she-oak (Allocasuarina spp.) dominated scrubland prone to flooding.  Wildlife known to be present on the property includes swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus moluccanus), barn owls (Tyto alba), eastern blue-tongued lizards (Tiliqua scincoides scincoides) and a large variety of water birds, as well as red-bellied black (Pseudechis porphyriacus), eastern brown (Pseudonaja textilis) and tiger (Notechis scutatus) snakes.
