Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Horizons

Denise McLean is the owner of Horizons, a property located in Agnes Water, approximately 120km north of Bundaberg, Queensland.  The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary which is also used for wildlife rehabilitation (predominantly orphaned macropods), and it is Denise’s intent as a wildlife carer for it to continue in these purposes.

The property covers 4.5 hectares of undulating, semi-cleared land with an abundance of large trees and wide variety of native grasses.  Examples of wildlife species known to occur on Horizons include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), whiptail (Macropus parryi) and swamp (Wallabia bicolor) wallabies, brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, northern brown bandicoots (Isoodon macrourus), goannas (Varanus varius), brush turkeys (Alectura lathami), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), and a wide variety of birdlife such as laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), and sulphur-crested (Cacatua galerita) and yellow-tailed black (Calyptorhynchus funereus) cockatoos.
