URGENT: Tigers awaiting rescue

Your gift can help rescue at least 25 tigers suffering from dire conditions at an illegal tiger farm in Thailand and bring them to an incredible sanctuary where they can thrive.

Our partners, Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT), have briefed us about their plans to rescue tigers from an absolutely dire situation at a tiger farm.

At the farm, tigers are imprisoned in concrete cages about the size of an average Australian bathroom, and sometimes there are as many as four tigers kept in the tiny space together. It’s estimated that there are only around 150 tigers left in the wild in Thailand. This number is at constant risk from illegal poachers who sell tigers as exotic pets or to unethical zoos, or use their body parts for use in traditional Chinese medicine. As well as the threat to wild populations, hundreds of captive tigers across the country suffer horrendously in unnatural living conditions in illegal farms, and at unethical tourist ‘attractions’ where they can be tormented and abused.

We can turn the lives of these tigers around.

WFFT are planning the rescue of at least 25 tigers who are still languishing in disgusting conditions at the farm, with plans to relocate them to their sanctuary in southern Thailand. Here, they will thrive in large enclosures with bushes and trees, and large swimming holes where they can cool off and play. In short, this sanctuary is as close to tiger paradise for a captive animal as you can get.

Can you help us support the urgent rescue of these tigers and help to give them a better life?

  • How are donations used?

Money donated is put immediately into animal protection, wildlife conservation and environmental programs in Australia and overseas. Most of our income comes from individual donors. Donations are used to fund our animal protection and wildlife projects supporting wildlife rescue centres, rehabilitation and release programs for endangered wild animals, and the investigation of wildlife crime. Your contributions allow us to deliver disaster relief efforts where and when they are needed. They support our work to protect wildlife habitat in Australia and overseas, with initiatives such as the Wildlife Land Trust helping private landholders protect the wildlife habitat on their land. Donations made to disaster appeals are restricted to funding disaster response, except for new monthly donations which help to fund ongoing work to protect animals.

  • How do I change/cancel my regular monthly gift?

You can make changes or cancel your regular monthly gift at any time by calling us on 1800 333 737 or sending an email to admin@hsi.org.au. We can update your credit card or bank account information, adjust the amount of your monthly gift and ensure we’re sending you the information you want to receive.

  • Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. All donations to HSI of $2 or more are tax deductible (Australia only).

  • What percentage of my donation goes to HSI’s animal protection and environmental projects?

Over 80% of the money HSI raises goes directly to our animal protection projects and conservation work in Australia and overseas. Around 10% of our expenditure is invested in fundraising to increase our capacity to fund projects in future years. The remaining 10% of expenditure is spent on day-to-day operational costs to maintain our office, and ensure we deliver all of our projects and campaigns in the most efficient way possible.

  • What can I do to help?

We are a community-funded organisation and rely on donors to support our work. The easiest and most effective way to contribute is to become an Animal Defender with a monthly recurring donation. Alternatively you can give a single donation today using our secure website. We also activate our community of supporters to write to politicians and sign petitions that we use to influence positive change for animals. Visit our Get Involved page to learn more.

  • Will you protect my privacy?

Yes. HSI values and respects all individuals and organisations seeking to donate time, money or resources to our organisation. We will not disclose information that you may give us, such as your name, address, e-mail address or telephone number, to any third party companies, unless we have your consent. We may disclose your personal information to third party service providers, such as mailing houses, for the sole purpose of assisting with the preparation of our own communications.
