Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Sujata Grove

Victor and Donna Hammett are the owners of Sujata Grove a property situated in Kooralgin southwest of Yarraman, Queensland. The property is located within 5 kilometres of both The Palms National Park and Pidna National Park. Sujata Grove consists of black soil flats, iron bark ridges, and a lagoon. The owner’s future intentions are to use the property as a nature refuge, restoring wildlife habitat, and offer the property as a location for field research for flora and fauna studies. As well, the owners have a vision to use Sujata Grove as a Buddhist retreat centre, offering a place to support those who wish to complete periods of meditation, either short or long term.

Sujata Grove spans 208 hectares. The property features native flora species such as red ironbark, blue gum (Eucalyptus tereticornis), grey ironbark (Eucalyptus siderophloia), gum top box (Eucalyptus moluccana), and vine scrub.

The property provides habitat for a range of species including whiptail wallabies (Notamacropus parryi), pademelons, bandicoots, echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), dingoes (Canis lupus dingo), possums, goannas (Varanus sp.), water birds – with swans (Cygnus atratus) breeding regularly on the lagoon, ducks, waterhens, rails and other birds such as quails, owls, finches, magpies, crows and more.
