The Property

Comprising two bespoke buildings, guests can spread out across both The Main House and The Barn, both designed to ensure a light environmental footprint to honour and respect the natural beauty of this private lakeside peninsula.

Surrounded by 44 acres of land and a kilometre of lake frontage, Somnium creates space to unfurl, discover, and reconnect.

Ideal for couples, families, and small groups, Somnium is the perfect backdrop for an impromptu escape from the city, a corporate retreat or a dedicated week-long stay to recharge and reset.

Somnium offers nature-based activities for guests to participate in such as a Local First Nations guided walk exploring Bingie Dreaming track. Guided walks or bird watching can also be pre-arranged for guests.

Ongoing regeneration work at Somnium includes regenerating areas with indigenous gum species  collected and germinated from the property in 2023. In early 2024, 300 (of the 1000) seedling gums have been planted as the first stage. A seasonal land management plan is also in place at Somnium to reduce invasive weeds/ plant & regenerate all EEC areas on the property.

About the sanctuary

Natalie Green and Christopher Pike are the owners of Somnium, a property situated in Bingie, approximately 47km south of Batemans Bay, New South Wales. The property is a wildlife-friendly sanctuary, also used for recreation and as a holiday home and occasional rental site. Natalie and Christopher wish to conserve and regenerate the land with the aim of supporting native flora and fauna.

Somnium spans 17.8 hectares on a natural peninsular with one kilometre of frontage to Coila Lake. The property is situated close to Eurobodalla National Park. Somnium features three Endangered Ecological Communities: Coastal Swamp Oak Forest, Lowland Grassy Woodland and remnant Littoral Rainforest. Vegetation is largely comprised of native grasslands, red gums (Eucalyptus camaldulensis), coastal grey box (Eucalyptus bosistoana), swamp oaks (Casuarina glauca), kurrajongs (Brachychiton populneus), wattles, banksias and native cherry (Exocarpos cupressiformis) and raspberry (Rubus parvifolius) trees along with elkhorns, shrubs, vines and ferns.

A wide range of wildlife is found on the property including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp (Wallabia bicolor) and red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) wallabies, short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) and bandicoots. The property is also home to a diversity of birds and reptiles.
