Biodiversity Legacy are the owners of North Paddock, a property situated in Maffra West Upper, north of Heyfield, Victoria. North Paddock is currently dedicated to the conservation and restoration of native ecosystems. The property supports a variety of threatened plant species and forms a crucial ecological link between the Coongulla Bushland Reserve, the Avon–Mount Hedrick Scenic Reserve and the Victorian Alps. Heather and Jim Phillipson have recently donated the North Paddock to Biodiversity Legacy for its permanent protection and long-term stewardship. The property is also part of the Land for Wildlife program, and there is also a Trust for Nature covenant on the land.
North Paddock spans 104 hectares across Lowland Forest, Herb-rich Forest and Swamp Scrub. The property was historically used as a staging area for mobs of cattle moving from the Gippsland plains to the alpine grasslands for summer grazing. The property provides habitat for a range of species including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps), wombats (Vombatus ursinus), emus (Dromaius novaehollandiae), goannas (Varanus sp.) and echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus).
