Jim and Heather Phillipson are the owners of Lower Block, a property situated in Monomak north of Heyfield, Victoria. The property was historically a staging post for cattle drovers who moved cattle to and from alpine peaks for summer grazing. Having been impacted by trampling, grazing, and timber harvesting, the property is now undergoing significant
revegetation. The property is isolated with Ben Cruachan Creek running through it, as well as ground water fed springs and soaks. It is intended for Lower Block to be restored back to native bushland and possibly even be a site for the targeted rewilding of certain native species. The property is part of the Land for Wildlife program and there is also a Trust for Nature covenant covering the land.
Lower Block spans 112 hectares across spring soaks, shrubby dry forest, rocky outcrop shrubland, swamp scrub and damp forest. The property provides habitat for a range of species including dingoes (Canis lupus dingo), wombats (Vombatus ursinus), platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) and lace monitors (Varanus varius).
