Russell Trewella is the owner of Elphindale, a property situated in Elphinstone, Victoria. The property was previously used for cattle grazing 45 years ago with the owner’s current and future intentions for the land being to allow original bush regeneration to occur with no stock animals on the property.
Elphindale spans 8.2 hectares. The land has been previously used as ex-cattle grazing country. The property features native flora species such as coffee bush (Cassinia sp.), late black wattle (Acacia mearnsii), silver wattle (Acacia dealbata), yellow box (Eucalyptus melliodora), red box (Eucalyptus polyanthemos), ironbark, stringybark, cherry ballart (Exocarpos cupressiformis) and native grasses.
The property provides habitat for a range of native fauna, including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), phascogales (Phascogale sp.) and short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus). Bird species observed include fairy wrens (Malurus sp.), pardalotes (Pardalotus sp.), magpies (Gymnorhina tibicen), kookaburras (Dacelo sp.), shrikes, butcherbirds (Cracticus sp.), ravens (Corvus sp.) and white-winged choughs (Corcorax melanorhamphos), as well as introduced European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and red foxes (Vulpes vulpes).
