Scientists confirm shark culling does not keep people safe; shark culling kills ocean wildlife.
Despite lacking scientific legitimacy, shark culling nets have been in use in NSW since the 1930s and in QLD since the 1960s. The Queensland Government also deploys traditional drumlines to kill sharks. Whereas, today we have non-lethal solutions that are much more effective strategies for public safety and that don’t involve killing animals.
It is far past time to update the archaic methods with modern, non-lethal and more effective technologies such as drone surveillance, alert systems, personal shark deterrents, shark research and education.
