In South Australia during 2023, the government authorised the killing of more than 84,000 native animals under “destruction permits”. On top of this, dingoes remain unprotected in some areas and can be killed even without a permit. These permits are handed out too easily, with little requirement to prove damage or try non-lethal alternatives first. Without reform, lethal control will remain the default response to human–wildlife conflict, leaving animals to suffer and ecosystems to decline. Help us call for fairer, stronger protections for South Australia’s native animals.
