Right now, the NSW Government is reviewing the Biodiversity Conservation Act — the very law that decides how our wildlife is protected, and how easily licences to kill them are granted.
In 2024 alone, more than 488,000 native animals were authorised to be killed under “licences to harm” and the Native Game Bird Management Program. Dingoes remain unprotected, kangaroos and wallabies can still be shot under relaxed rules, and birds like native ducks are targeted in their thousands through the Game Bird Program — which looks more like a backdoor to recreational hunting than genuine crop protection.
This reform is a critical chance to stop making killing the default response to human–wildlife conflict. Help us make sure the Minister hears that New South Wales needs stronger protections for wildlife.
