Roz and Kevin Holme are the owners of Cedar Creek Wombat Rescue and Hospital, located approximately 20 km from Cessnock. Purchased with the intent of dedication as a wildlife sanctuary, the property is registered as a Wildlife Refuge with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service.
The property covers 76.89 hectares and features large expanses of white gum bushland and turpentine, which provide habitat for brush-tailed rock wallabies (Petrogale penicillata), koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), common wallaroos (Macropus robustus), a variety of birds including glossy black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus lathami), and a number of reptile species.
Roz and Kevin manage their property as a sanctuary and rehabilitation site for rescued wildlife. They are trying to build a wildlife hospital, mainly for wombats suffering from sarcoptic mange, and are planting more trees to create further habitat for the animals.
