Lyn and Peter Watson are the owners of Dingo Discovery Sanctuary, a property located approximately 50km northwest of Melbourne. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary used for education, tourism and the conservation of pure dingoes, and it is Lyn and Peter’s intent for it to remain for these purposes while encouraging regeneration of natural bushland. Dingo Discovery Sanctuary is also a member of the Land for Wildlife program.
The property covers 16 hectares of sloping land consisting of regenerating forest and grassland. Dry sclerophyll forest is the dominant vegetation type, with native grasses and eucalypts abundant.
Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include dingoes (Canis dingo), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) and brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) possums, koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), various snake and lizard species, and more than 50 recorded species on native bird.
