Noel and Joellen Sadler are the owners of a property named Cooinda meaning “a happy place”, situated in Taree in New South Wales. The property is cleared but does feature scattered trees and a dam water source in the middle of the property, and the land also apparently serves as a corridor for koalas. The owners’ future intentions are to develop Cooinda into a safe place for local native wildlife.
Cooinda spans 1.03 hectares across Wet Sclerophyll Forests (Grassy sub-formation) including the plant community types of Lower North Spotted Gum-Mahogany-Ironbark Sheltered Forest and Northern Bloodwood-Ironbark Moist Grassy Forest. While some of the land is cleared, the property features native flora species such as Eucalyptus sp., wattles (Acacia sp.), bottlebrushes (Callistemon sp.) and silky oaks (Grevillea robusta). The property provides habitat for a range of species including wallabies, sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps), common ringtail possums (Pseudocheirus peregrinus), magpies (Gymnorhina tibicen), butcherbirds (Cracticus sp.), Australian king parrots (Alisterus scapularis), galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla), rosellas (Platycercus sp.), rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus moluccanus), and currawongs (Strepera sp).
