Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Lakes Creek Nature Refuge

Alex Jones and Emma Owbridge are the owners of Lakes Creek Nature Refuge, a property situated in Lakes Creek, less than 6km east of Rockhampton, Queensland. The property is located in a valley verging on the Berserker Ranges and Mount Archer National Park with the owners intending to be long term residents and continue the ecological restoration of the land.

Lakes Creek Nature Refuge spans 13 hectares across remnant Eucalypt and iron bark forest and has two dry creek systems that support dry rainforest. Although the land has experienced degradation from stock, it is currently under restoration. The property provides habitat for a range of species including wallabies, echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), possums, bandicoots, dingoes (Canis lupus dingo), apostlebirds (Struthidea cinerea), brush turkeys (Alectura lathami), spangled drongos (Dicrurus bracteatus), dollarbirds (Eurystomus orientalis), pale-headed rosellas (Platycercus adscitus), fig birds (Sphecotheres vieilloti), kites, black cockatoos, corellas, curlews, pheasants, fly catchers, kookaburras, kingfishers and various owl species.
