Julie and Mark Mills are the owners of Meringo Point Sanctuary, a property situated in Meringo, southeast of Moruya, New South Wales. The property is situated directly on the coast and is surrounded to the north and south by Eurobodalla National Park. The property was previously a dairy farm 30 years ago and is now a wildlife sanctuary that is also used for wildlife rehabilitation and education. While living part-time on the property, the owners Julie and Mark are currently rewilding it to regenerate it as a place for wildlife and habitat conservation. A significant portion (85%) of the property is protected in perpetuity by a conservation covenant with the Biodiversity Conservation Trust of New South Wales.
Meringo Point Sanctuary spans 12 hectares across Southern Lowland Wet Sclerophyll Forest and Coastal Valley Grassy Woodland vegetation classes. Native plant species found on the property include coastal redgum (Eucalyptus tereticornis), Casuarina spp., and Themeda spp. grasses. The land provides habitat for a range of species including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), red-necked wallabies (Notamacropus rufogriseus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), bandicoots, ring-tailed possums (Pseudocheirus peregrinus), brush-tailed possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) various glider species, Antechinus sp., snakes, goannas (Varanus sp.), other reptiles and over 40 species of birds.
