Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / NSW / Yarrabimbi

Ana Falerio and Andrew Thompson are the owners of Yarrabimbi, a property situated in Leeton, New South Wales. The property is a home and refuge with crown land adjacent- the Brobenah Range. Ana and Andrew have recently installed nest boxes on the property with the assistance of a grant from the Murrumbidgee Field Naturalists, of which they are members. 12 dams are located throughout the property and bathtubs of water have been supplied as a drinking supply for kangaroos in particularly dry seasons. In May 2012 Yarrabimbi was established as a protected vegetation property by the Murrumbidgee Catchment Management Authority. The property has also been used by army cadets, scouts and a local high school: Yanco Agricultural High School.

Yarrabimbi spans 530 acres. The land was destocked in 2000 and features nil cropping. Native plant species found on the property include drooping she oak (hill oak) (Allocasuarina verticillata), cypress pine (Callitris sp.), grey box (Eucalyptus microcarpa), Dwyer’s mallee gum (Eucalyptus dwyeri), green mallee (Eucalyptus viridis) and spider orchids (Caladenia sp.).

The property provides habitat for a range of species including grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), wombats (Vombatus ursinus), black wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus), goannas, glossy black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus lathami lathami) and diamond firetails (Stagonopleura guttata).
