Molly Wakely is the owner of Caledon, a property situated in Willunga Hill, approximately 50km south of Adelaide, South Australia. The property is a residence, wildlife sanctuary and donkey rehabilitation site, also housing two cows and a pony. Molly plans to continue conserving the land and is seeking a Bush Heritage agreement for the back section of the property. Caledon will join three other Wildlife Land Trust sanctuaries in Willunga Hill, connecting and expanding the wildlife corridor through the area.
The property spans 8 hectares across undulating land divided into six paddocks. The block features a homestead, a large orchard and a chicken coop, all supplied with rainwater.
Native vegetation is comprised of eucalypt woodland and native grasslands along the back of the property, which is protected by exclusion fencing. The paddocks have been chemical-free for nearly 20 years, allowing frogs and native insects including dung beetles to thrive.
A wide range of native wildlife is present including koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), western grey kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus), short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), swamp rats, flying-foxes, blue-tongued lizards (Tiliqua scincoides) and snakes. The property is also home to an array of birdlife.
