Thomas Last is the owner of a property situated in Khancoban, approximately 70km south of Tumbarumba, New South Wales. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and recreational site, and it is Thomas’ intention to continue preserving the land for the benefit of native species and their habitat.
The property spans 220 hectares of Native Alpine High Country, dominated by eucalypt woodland interspersed with stands of Xanthorrhoea and with an understory of native grass species.
A range of native species are found on the property including eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), swamp (Wallabia bicolor) and red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) wallabies, crimson rosellas (Platycercus elegans) and yellow-tailed black cockatoos (Zanda funereus). Several non-native species are also present including deer and some rabbits.
