Bart Jenniches and Kelly Blackford are the owners of The Sprites at Swanport, a property located north of Triabunna, Tasmania. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary with large portions of the land protected in-perpetuity by a conservation covenant. It is Bart and Kelly’s intent to continue to protect the native bushland allowing the land to recover from its previous uses for grazing and agriculture and, ultimately, to serve as a wildlife corridor through to an adjoining nature reserve.
The Sprites at Swanport covers 80.9 hectares comprising of a variety of vegetation types, from open tussock and themeda grasslands, through dryland scrub, to mature dry sclerophyll woodland. All atop an equally diverse undulating landscape of hilltop vistas with views to the coast, open paddocks and closed bush, rocky hillocks, secluded gullies and breathtaking views along the river basin.
Within the landscape is an equally diverse suite of native wildlife, including Bennett’s wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus tasmaniensis), spotted-tailed (Dasyurus maculatus) and eastern (Dasyurus viverrinus) quolls and Tasmanian devils (Sarcophilus harrisii), plus a huge array of woodland birds, reptiles and insects.
