Marilyn Mills is the owner of The Keep, a property located in Cobargo, approximately 40km north of Bega, New South Wales. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary also used for recreation. Much of The Keep’s vegetation was burned in the Black Summer bushfires, however the property is slowly regenerating and Marilyn plans to maintain the land as a safe haven for native species into the future.
The property covers 2.83 hectares of slightly undulating land, now cleared after the bushfires. Vegetation is largely comprised of native grasses interspersed with kikuyu (Pennisetum clandestinum). The property is home to eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus) and bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus). Many native birds are also beginning to return post-bushfires.
