Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / SA / Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue

Mish and Wade Simpson are the owners of 102 Kimberley Road, a property situated in Onkaparinga Hills, approximately 30km south of Adelaide, South Australia. The property is the home base for Southern Koala and Echidna Rescue (SKER).

SKER’s work extends far beyond treating injured wildlife. While our on-site veterinary clinic and facilities provide exceptional care for koalas, echidnas, and other native animals, we understand that preventing wildlife injuries is equally important. As such, we’re also committed to advocacy and research.

The property spans 9 hectares and is comprised of native vegetation as well as 2 hectares of 70 year old dry grown grenache (Southern Koala Wines). Vegetation is characterised as grey box (Eucalyptus microcarpa) and river red gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) woodland.

The property is home to a wide range of wildlife including koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus), euros (Macropus robustus), western grey kangaroos (Macropus fuliginosus), brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums and short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus).

Birdlife is abundant and includes wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax), laughing kookaburras (Dacelo novaeguineae), magpies (Gymnorhina tibicen), Australian ravens (Corvus coronoides), pardalotes, galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla), rainbow (Trichoglossus moluccanus) and musk (Glossopsitta concinna) lorikeets, yellow-tailed black cockatoos (Zanda funerea), common bronzewing pigeons (Phaps chalcoptera), corellas (Cacatua sanguinea), Adelaide (Platycercus elegans) and western (Platycercus icterotis) rosellas, owls and goshawks.
