Ben and Irene Stocks and Nicole Scott are the owners of Ngurang Wildlife Sanctuary, a property situated in Harden, New South Wales. The property currently contains a macropod rehabilitation dwelling and enclosure as well as a preflight aviary for monitoring of rescued birds for flight and hunting ability to ensure they are ready for release. The owners would like to extend the rehabilitation facilities to include further bird and raptor aviaries, possum and glider rehabilitation, echidna and wombat enclosures. Furthermore, the owners would also like in future to incorporate an educational component (schools, groups, media) alongside the rescue and rehabilitation done onsite, creating more awareness and education about native wildlife and how the public can assist in their rescue and immediate care.
Ngurang Wildlife Sanctuary spans 2.5 hectares. The land has been previously used as an award-winning native plant nursery. After closing the nursery, the property has since been landscaped naturally with many of the native flora species such as trees, shrubs, flowering plants and groundcovers, most of which were available as tubestock when the nursery was open for business. Ngurang Wildlife Sanctuary also includes an area of large natural bushrock alongside a manmade billabong, house, studio residence, and work/machinery shed.
The property provides habitat for a range of species including echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus), wallabies, kangaroos, insects, reptiles and native birds.
