Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Lunara

Welcome to Lunara:

Perched high on a hill where rainforest meets ocean sky, Lunara is a sanctuary shaped by moonlight, mist and the quiet resilience of wildlife. The name reflects both the celestial rhythm that governs nature and the gentle restoration that happens here each day. The moon watches. The ferns whisper and every orphaned soul is given the opportunity to return home.

Lunara was established as a dedicated wildlife rehabilitation and conservation sanctuary, a safe haven for injured, orphaned and displaced native wildlife. Surrounding regenerating rainforest and open grassed clearings, the property provides natural shelter, food sources and release habitat for macropods, possums, birds and other native fauna. It’s elevated position offers both protection and outlook, a place of safety but also transition.

At its core Lunara is committed to the principles of:

  • Habitat Restoration
  • Ethical Wildlife Rehabilitation
  • Biodiversity conservation
  • Community education and stewardship

This land is managed with intention to preserve existing habitat, enhance native vegetation and minimise human impact so wildlife can thrive. Regeneration of native plant species and protection of wildlife corridors are central to its long term vision.

Lunar exists not only to rehabilitate wildlife but to restore balance, to ensure that those displaced by urban expansion road trauma and habitat fragmentation are given a second chance. Here, care is meticulous, release is purposeful and every life is valued.

More than a property, Lunara is a commitment to conservation. It stands as a refuge for wildlife today and a protected sanctuary for generations to come.

Rehab – Rewild – Return

Andrew and Kirsty Black are the owners of Lunara, a property situated in Ball Bay approximately 4kms southeast of Seaforth, Queensland. The property is a beautiful rainforest where the focus is on the rehabilitation and release of local native wildlife. The owners intend to continue to use the sanctuary for education as well as for rehabilitating wildlife, calling Lunara a place a “soul sanctuary for orphaned wildlife”.

Lunara spans 12.73 hectares across subtropical rainforest.

The property provides habitat for a range of species including pademelons, unadorned rock wallabies (Petrogale inornata), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), agile wallabies (Notamacropus agilis) and a large variety of bird species, reptiles, possums, gliders and bandicoots.
