Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / QLD / Leeton Retreat

Courtney and Tatham Leeton are the owners of Leeton Retreat, a property located approximately 20km south of Townsville, Queensland. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary as well as a residence, and it is Courtney and Tatham’s intent for the property to continue to provide a safe haven for local wildlife.

Leeton Retreat covers approximately 0.4 hectares of native bushland including emerging rainforest vegetation in a rural residential area with ongoing revegetation works creating additional habitat for wildlife.

Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla), rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus moluccanus), green tree frogs (Litoria caerulea), pale-headed rosellas (Platycercus adscitus), Australian king parrots (Alisterus scapularis), red-winged parrots (Aprosmictus erythropterus), eastern koels (Eudynamys orientalis), bush stone-curlews (Burhinus grallarius), Australasian figbirds (Sphecotheres vieilloti), blue-faced honeyeaters (Entomyzon cyanotis), magpie-larks (Grallina cyanoleuca), black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus spp.), kingfishers (Todiramphus spp.) and a variety of other native birds and butterflies.
