Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / NSW / Heron Hill

Cathryn and Nathan Dearinger are the owners of Heron Hill, a property situated in Green Pigeon, approximately 20km northeast of Kyogle, New South Wales. The property is a residence, wildlife sanctuary and wildlife rehabilitation site, also used for agriculture. Cathryn and Nathan plan to restore the land further through replanting and regeneration, with a goal to eventually place a conservation covenant over the property. The property is additionally registered with Land for Wildlife.

Heron Hill spans approximately 6.5 hectares comprised of grazing land, bush regrowth, wet sclerophyll forest and subtropical rainforest. The property has frontage onto Fawcetts Creek, features a dam and is situated close to Mebbin National Park.

A wide range of wildlife is found on the property including regent bowerbirds (Sericulus chrysocephalus), wrens, finches, pardalotes, herons and owls. Swamp (Wallabia bicolor) and pretty-faced (Macropus parryi) wallabies are commonly seen, and koalas (Phascolarctos cinereus) and short-beaked echidnas (Tachyglossus aculeatus) are occasional visitors.
