Debra Gilmore is the owner of Gilmore Nature Reserve, a property situated in The Dawn, Queensland. Deb, and her daughter Dana, are currently in the process of opening a cattery (Mary Valley Cattery) and are working hard to transform the greatly bare property into a wildlife hub.
Gilmore Nature Reserve spans 1.57 hectares and is currently dominated by grassland and has a few large Eucalypt trees and a few remnant trees on the property. The land was previously part of a dairy farm. Deb and Dana have been repopulating the property with suitable native trees for a year now with the goal of attracting more native wildlife. They have planted over 250 native trees and shrubs so far with many more plantings planned. The property provides habitat for a range of species including bandicoots, wallabies, antechinus, bandy-bandy snakes (Vermicella annulata), bearded dragons (Pogona sp.), goannas (Varanus sp.), possums (Trichosurus sp), butcherbirds (Cracticus sp), kingfishers, blue-winged kookaburras (Dacelo leachii), wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax), sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), yellow-tailed black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus funereus), glossy black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus lathami), rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus moluccanus), little lorikeets (Glossopsitta pusilla), willie wagtails (Rhipidura leucophrys) and green tree frogs (Litoria caerulea).
