Dana Gilmore is the owner of Gilmore Nature Reserve, a property situated in The Dawn, Queensland. The property is a wildlife sanctuary also used for tourism purposes. Dana Gilmore is currently in the process of opening a cattery (Mary Valley Cattery) and would like the property to be a wildlife hub. She is committed to gradually transforming the greatly bare land into a wildlife haven.
Gilmore Nature Reserve spans 1.57 hectares and is currently dominated by grassland and has large gum trees and a few remnant trees on the property. The land was previously a dairy farm. Dana has been repopulating the property with suitable trees for a year now with the goal of attracting more native wildlife. The property provides habitat for a range of species including bandicoots, wallabies, antechinus, bandy-bandy snakes (Vermicella annulata), bearded dragons (Pogona sp.), goannas (Varanus sp.), blue-winged kookaburras (Dacelo leachii), wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax), sulphur-crested cockatoos (Cacatua galerita), yellow-tailed black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus funereus), glossy black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus lathami), rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus moluccanus), little lorikeets (Glossopsitta pusilla), willie wagtails (Rhipidura leucophrys) and green tree frogs (Litoria caerulea).
