Victoria’s outdated Wildlife Act is currently being reformed — the first major update in 50 years. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to modernise our laws and give native animals the protection they deserve.
In 2024 alone, the government authorised the killing of more than 176,000 native animals under “Authorities to Control Wildlife”. Meanwhile, dingoes remain unprotected across much of the state and can be killed even though they are listed as a threatened species. Cruel methods such as poisons and leg-hold traps are still permitted against dingoes, despite being banned for other wildlife.
These reforms must deliver real change. Help us tell the Victorian Government to ensure the new Wildlife Act ends lethal control as the default and makes coexistence the standard.
