In the Northern Territory during 2023, the government authorised the killing of more than 21,000 native animals under permits to take or interfere with wildlife. These permits are handed out too easily, with little requirement to prove damage or try non-lethal alternatives first. Without reform, lethal control will remain the default response to human–wildlife conflict, leaving animals to suffer and ecosystems to decline. Help us call for stronger protections for the Northern Territory’s native animals.
