How to leave a gift in your Will
One of the common myths about leaving a gift to charity in a Will is that it is only for the very wealthy and that it is legally complex to do. In fact, the hundreds of people who have already made a legacy gift of this kind to HSI Australia come from all walks of life.
Adding HSI to your Will can be a simple matter, but one that you should discuss with your loved ones and solicitor. If you already have a Will, you can speak to your solicitor about adding a codicil—a short legal amendment. We have also partnered with Gathered Here to offer supporters the option to make a free online Will. Click here to be taken to the Gathered Here online platform.
Typical gifts can include:
- Residual, or a percentage of the total value of your Estate
- A specific cash amount
- A specific gift of real estate, stocks, shares, bonds etc.
Depending on the type of gift that you would like to leave, we recommend that you use the following wording, which you should discuss with your solicitor:
“I give and bequeath to Humane Society International Ltd (ABN 63 510 927 032), in aid of that organisation and for its general purposes, <the sum of $_____> OR <the rest and residue of my Estate>, for which the receipt of the CEO or other officer shall be sufficient discharge to my Executor for the Bequest.”
It is important that you include Humane Society International Australia’s correct details in your Will. Our details are as follows:
Legal Name: Humane Society International Ltd
ABN: 63 510 927 032
Physical Address: L1/27 Old Barrenjoey Rd, Avalon Beach NSW 2107
Leaving a gift in your Will is a profound commitment, and one that we would be happy to speak with you about, obligation-free.
