Wildlife Land Trust membership

The Wildlife Land Trust program offers private landholders an opportunity to dedicate their property to  wildlife conservation through conserving, restoring and enhancing their land.

To be eligible for the program, properties must be sized over 1 acre, however exceptions can be made for smaller properties with high biodiversity value.

The Wildlife Land Trust is an inclusive program with participating landholders varying in their land use. Our current members form a nationwide community of farmers, eco-tourism business owners, conservationists and environmentally responsible landholders protecting rare and common species alike.

To become a member, landholders agree to not partake in recreational or commercial hunting of animals, or the commercial logging or harvesting of timber products or other activities that would destroy wildlife habitat on their property. The agreement is not legally binding, and the program can complement current or future land protection arrangements that members may also have.

What are the benefits?

  • We provide an opportunity for you to become a part of a growing network of 900+ sanctuaries promoting conservation and protecting wildlife and habitats across Australia.
  • Share your conservation story with your own sanctuary profile and through our biannual newsletter Wildlife Lands, and connect with people in your local area with a free Wildlife Land Trust property sign.
  • You’ll be supported with information about restoration grants, wildlife events, wildlife news, access to grants and expert conservation advice as well as support for wildlife issues in your local community.
  • WLT members can also choose to join the Sanctuaries You Can Stay subprogram which gives accommodation providers an opportunity to connect with environmentally conscious travellers, or the Sanctuaries For Sale subprogram which offers landholders an opportunity to seek an environmentally-minded steward for their land.
