Evan Ahern is the owner of a property situated in Mullumbimby, approximately 20km northwest of Byron Bay, New South Wales. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and bush regeneration site. Evan has planted over 5,000 rainforest species in the past 6 months, with the aim to establish a functioning rainforest ecosystem on the property.
The property covers approximately 3 hectares and is in the process of regeneration. Originally sub-tropical floodplain rainforest, the property now consists of cleared pasture bounded by remnant native forest.
Wildlife consists mainly of native birds, including blue-faced honeyeaters (Entomyzon cyanotis), eastern (Platycercus eximius) and crimson (Platycercus elegans) rosellas, pied butcher birds (Cracticus nigrogularis), wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax), brown goshawks (Accipiter fasciatus), spur-winged plovers (Vanellus miles) and native ducks.
