Marilyn and Guy Wilmington are the owners of Sherwood, a property located approximately 20km northwest of Braidwood. The property is a residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary, and also houses nine horses. It is Marilyn and Guy’s intent for Sherwood to continue in these purposes and remain in as natural a state as possible.
The property totals 33 hectares, approximately one quarter of which is grassland with the remainder natural scrub. Dominant vegetation species present include ghost gums (Corymbia aparrerinja), peppermint box (Eucalyptus odorata), tea tree (Leptospermum spp.), wattles (Acacia spp.) and a variety of shrubs, and three large dams provide a water source for wildlife throughout the year.
Wildlife species known to inhabit the sanctuary include eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), wallaroos (Macropus robustus), red-necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus), brushtail possums (Trichosurus vulpecula), ringtail possums (Pseudocheirus peregrinus), sugar gliders (Petaurus breviceps), bare-nosed wombats (Vombatus ursinus), a variety of bird species including yellow-tailed black cockatoos (Calyptorhynchus funereus) and wedge-tailed eagles (Aquila audax), and a range of lizards, bats, and other forms of wildlife.
