Manfred and Helene Klose are the owners of Forest Lodge, a property located approximately 100km south of Gladstone. The property is a dedicated wildlife sanctuary and a residence. It is Manfred and Helene’s intent to continue to utilise the property for conservation purposes including wildlife rehabilitation, with Helene a registered wildlife carer tending primarily to orphaned and injured gliders. The property is also registered with Land for Wildlife. In future, Helene and Manfred plan to offer small-scale, wildlife-friendly accommodation in the form of cabins.
Forest Lodge covers 8.3 hectares and consists mainly of eucalypt woodlands and sub-tropical rainforest, with the owners also planting one hundred koala fodder trees to provide habitat and a food source for native wildlife including greater gliders.
Wildlife known to inhabit the property includes eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus), agile (Macropus agilis) and red-necked (Macropus rufogriseus) wallabies, brushtail (Trichosurus vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, greater (Petauroides volans), sugar (Petaurus breviceps), squirrel (Petaurus norfolcensis) and feathertail (Acrobates pygmaeus) gliders, northern brown bandicoots (Isoodon macrourus), lace monitors (Varanus varius) and a variety of birds, frogs and snakes.
