Alan K Pountney is the owner of Mount Monty Rainforest Nature Reserve, a property situated in Scrubby Creek, approximately 10km southwest of Gympie, Queensland. The property is a residence and dedicated wildlife sanctuary and is currently used for wildlife rehabilitation and education. Alan intends to conserve the significant natural and cultural resources of the sanctuary and to provide for the controlled use of the area’s natural resources. Mount Monty Rainforest Nature Reserve is located within a 5-10 km radius of six state forests. The property also has a conservation agreement with the Queensland State Government for the specific purpose of creating a nature refuge over the land.

The property spans 13.5 hectares. Mount Monty Rainforest Nature Reserve is comprised of a number of regional ecosystems, including notophyll and notophyll / microphyll rainforest, which contain a number of endangered, rare or vulnerable plant species. These vegetation communities also provide habitat for abundant birdlife on the property which includes regent and satin bowerbirds (Ptilonorhynchus violaceus), green catbirds (Ailuroedus crassirostris), and paradise riflebirds (Ptiloris paradiseus).
