Brendon Crook is the owner of Jandamarra Refuge, a property located approximately 173km west of Toowoomba. The property is to be a residence and wildlife-friendly sanctuary, and it is Brendon’s intent to regenerate the land as needed, setting aside half to one acre to establish a small dwelling with the remainder being kept as a wildlife sanctuary.
The sanctuary covers 19 hectares and although Brendon is not yet familiar with the property’s vegetation types, local flora includes a variety of eucalypt species and riparian open forests and woodlands.
Wildlife species known to inhabit the property are yet to be fully documented, however common native species found in the area include the common brushtail (Trichosurus Vulpecula) and ringtail (Pseudocheirus peregrinus) possums, grey-headed (Pteropus poliocephalus), black (Pteropus alecto) and little red (Pteropus scapulatus) flying foxes, swamp wallabies (Wallabia bicolor), eastern grey kangaroos (Macropus giganteus) and a diverse range of birds, frogs and reptiles.
