Did you know Australia is ranked 10th in the world for the number of protected mammal trophies imported into the country?
That’s 10th in the world for bringing home the body parts of wildlife hunted overseas for private display, including trophies of species like giraffes and zebras.
Over the last decade, the Australian Government has granted permits for the import of hunting trophies from over 1,000 animals protected under CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora).
Wildlife belongs in the wild not on the wall. It’s time for the Government to end this cruel trade.
Our national environment law, the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) already prohibits the import of hunting trophies from African lions and elephants and the southern white rhino. It’s time to extend this ban to all species protected under CITES.
Will you help us by writing to Environment Minister The Hon. Tanya Plibersek, asking her to implement an immediate ban on the import of hunting trophies into Australia?
