Wildlife Land Trust / Sanctuaries / NSW / Nunyara

Steven and Yvette Ardern are the owners of Nunyara, a property situated in Tenterfield, New South Wales. The property is a wildlife sanctuary and is currently being used for wildlife rehabilitation. Steven and Yvette Ardern intend to completely regenerate, returning the creek and flats to their original condition. On the southern rise towards the rear of the property they would like to plant koala friendly trees as the area previously was home to koalas. The owners also have a desire to undertake mass plantings of flowering natives to encourage more bird life back to the property.

The property spans 8.04 hectares. Native vegetation communities on the property include Grey Box grassy woodland or open forest of the Nandewar Bioregion and the New England Tableland Bioregion including native vegetation species such as grey box (Eucalyptus moluccana), rough-barked apple (Angophora floribunda), Acacia fimbriata, tussock (Poa labillardieri), snow grass (Poa sieberiana) and spiny-headed matrush (Lomandra longifolia). Parts of the property that are classified as Broad-leaved Stringybark – Yellow Box shrub/grass open forest of the New England Tableland Bioregion include vegetation species such as broad-leaved stringybark (Eucalyptus caliginosa), yellow box (Eucalyptus melliodora), Western New England blackbutt (Eucalyptus andrewsii), Blakely’s red gum (Eucalyptus blakelyi), Tenterfield woollybutt (Eucalyptus banksii), native blackthorn (Bursaria spinosa), snowy mint-bush (Prostanthera nivea), fringing wattle (Acacia frimbriata), snow grass (Poa sieberiana), brown’s lovegrass (Eragrostis brownii), pitted bluegrass (Bothriochloa decipiens) and native raspberry (Rubus parvifolius). Patches of Grey Box woodland form part of the White Box – Yellow Box – Blakely’s Red Gum Woodland and derived native grasslands endangered ecological community listed in the BC Act.
