With so much information flying around at election time on the news and social media, it can be difficult to really know what parties and candidates really stand for when it comes to shark nets.
That’s why we have developed this 2023 NSW Election Scorecard, which sheds light on key parties plans for the 51 shark nets situated along NSW’s coast between Newcastle and Wollongong.
These scorecards are a great way for you to keep informed and inform others ahead of the election this month. You can also use these scorecards to talk to any of your other local candidates about their policies.
We contacted candidates in electorates with shark nets in their ocean beaches. You can find the positions for these candidates in the following electorates here:
Coogee – Cronulla – Gosford – Heathcote – Manly – Maroubra – Newcastle – Pittwater – Swansea – Terrigal – The Entrance – Vaucluse – Wollongong – Wyong
All parties contesting the election were sent the same letter requesting their responses to the same question. All parties were sent reminders to respond. The table includes the responses that we received from the parties that responded. The LNP did not respond but we have given them a score based on their known publicised policies or public responses to similar questions.
We will update the table promptly if more information is provided by the parties.

These scorecards do not support or oppose any particular parties.
