There is no getting around it. Sheep shipped off for slaughter overseas face a gruelling journey and routinely die in terrible circumstances.

There is simply no way to make the mass export of live sheep over long distances humane.

This is why, thankfully, the Albanese Labor Government has promised to bring live sheep exports by sea to an end. The Government has established an expert panel to consult on the best way to phase it out and recommend when it will end.

The Government has said they will not waver from this promise. But they will not shut the industry down overnight and they will give the industry time to adjust.

We need to be sure the end is in the sight and the misery will end before the next Government is elected.
