Help us stop the next destructive fishing trawler

You helped us to stop the super trawler, now we need your help to stop the pair trawler.

The Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) has received an application to allow Pair Trawling, a reincarnation of the Super Trawler, into our Small Pelagic Fishery (SPF) and we only have a few days to stop it. The SPF spans waters from Perth to Queensland; it is a vast area where many of our threatened marine species are found.

HSI has submitted our opposition to AFMA but we need your help so we can put a stop to the pair trawler coming to Australia. Pair trawling is banned in many countries, including the United Kingdom, due to the destruction it causes to marine ecosystems and the species that call our oceans home.  More marine mammals, including protected dolphins and seals, are killed in pair trawlers than any other fishing method.

Please use our form below to email AFMA and ask them to refuse the pair trawler, and keep our oceans safe. Copies of your emails will also be sent to the ministers for fisheries and environment.

Our fishing stocks are critical and yet we continue to entertain the idea of allowing these enterprises with nothing but a profit motive and with absolutely no concern for fish stocks por the environment to proliferate all in the name of business.
Not at Australia’s expense if you don’t mind and this practice has been banned elsewhere btw.

IF THE GOVERNMENTS OF THE WORLD CAN’T OR WON’T TREAT THE PLANET’S RESOURCES WITH THE UTMOST RESPECT THEN THE HUMAN SPECIES SUFFER AS MUCH AS THE OTHERS.

Should it not be the responsibility of the environment minister to care for the environment, instead of leaving it to the people. I strongly protest against any large scale industrial fishing and or destruction of the marine environment.

Why is this up for discussion?? Super trawlers should never be allowed in Australian waters. In fact it shouldn’t be allowed in the ocean period. It should be permanently banned from Australian waters.
