HSI releases Federal Election “Report Card’ outlining major and minor party views on conservation and animal welfare policies
Sydney 27/6/16: Today, Humane Society International (HSI) launched its Federal Election Report Card that reveals the stance of the major and minor political parties in relation to key environmental and animal welfare policies.
Michael Kennedy, HSI Campaign Director stated: “With election day fast approaching, we have put together a 2016 Federal Election Report Card summarising political party positions on the key conservation and animal welfare issues. The Coalition and Nick Xenophon Team failed to respond, but we will update the Report Card during the week as necessary.”
The conservation policies listed on the report card will help ensure long-term environmental stability for Australia and the region, and the animal welfare issues listed are those which have gained increasing public concern as consumers demand further transparency, trending towards ethical practices.
Mr Kennedy concluded: “It is the intent that this Report Card will be helpful to the HSI’s 65,000 members and the Australian public when casting votes this Saturday, ensuring that conservation issues and animal matters remain at the forefront of the political party agendas.”
