The Northern Territory Government has made repeated attempts to persuade the Australian Federal Environment Minister to allow a trophy hunting industry for crocodiles. They envisage rich hunters from Europe and the United States flying into Australia to shoot a crocodile and take it home as a trophy. Humane Society International has always been able to persuade successive Federal Environment Ministers against such a retrograde step with sound conservation and animal welfare arguments.
