HSI WELCOMES WORLDS LARGEST NETWORK OF MARINE RESERVES

16th November, 2012

Humane Society International today welcomed the establishment of the world’s largest network of marine reserves in Australia.

“This is an important step in protecting our marine environment, and helping to ensure that the critical habitats of our threatened marine species are better protected to assist in their recovery” said Alexia Wellbelove of Humane Society International.  “We urge the Government to begin the next stage of development of management plans as soon as possible so that the reserve network can be put in place urgently.”

Polling a conducted by Essential Research in June 2012 found that the proposed national network of marine parks had the highest approval rating for any announcement made during the current term of Federal government to that point – at 70% support / 13% disapproval*.
