HSI condemns native duck shooting
Humane Society International (HSI) has today condemned the shooting of native ducks in NSW in the name of pest eradication to protect rice crops.
“The shooting of 200,000 native ducks is totally unacceptable and suggests this act is more about sport than crop protection,” said HSI’s Senior Program Manager Alexia Wellbelove.
“HSI are urging further consideration be given to non-lethal crop protection, to avoid this government-sanctioned slaughter of our native ducks, some of which do not even feed on rice crops” concluded Ms Wellbelove.
HSI will continue to urge protection of native species and non-lethal and humane control methods for crop protection in favour of government-sanctioned cruelty.
