ONE MAN'S DEVOTION TO HIS BELOVED DOG, 'BUBBA'
The destruction caused by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines on 8th November 2013 was devastating, but it also brought us some inspiring stories of survival and courage. One of the heart-warming successes was a story demonstrating an incredible bond between one man and his six-month old puppy, Bubba.
His owner was desperate for any aid to save his beloved companion, on the brink of starvation. He had once heard of Humane Society International, so in desperation he moved Bubba’s dog house into the road and placed a sign on top which read: “INT. HUMANE SOCIETY PLEASE HELP ME! BUBBA”. Not long afterwards, Rey del Napoles, program manager of HSI in the Philippines, received a photo of the sign on the shelter and went in search of Bubba. Del Napoles has been part of the HSI Animal Rescue Team of 10 veterinarians providing aid to companion animals following the typhoon, reuniting displaced animals with their families.
Del Napoles soon managed to locate Bubba and his distraught owner and it was such an emotional moment, bringing them all to tears! Bubba’s owner was so shocked that, against all odds, his calls for help had been answered.
Bubba received full medical attention as well as food and water just in time. And it’s all your valuable support that makes work like this possible – thank you for your donations to help people and animals like Bubba, affected by these terrible disasters.
