HSI Supporter Fundraises for Dancing Bear Campaign
Humane Society International acknowledges with immense appreciation the wonderful efforts of an extremely passionate supporter to raise funds to assist its campaign for the Dancing Bears of India.
Late last year this remarkable young woman heard about HSI and our campaign to rescue every last dancing bear from the streets of India and to ensure that it ends forever after seeing one of HSI's brochures on the project.
She then decided to give family members a donation to the campaign for their Christmas presents. It was not long after that she decided to do more to help. Her aim was to raise more funds for "the wonderful people making such a difference to these beautiful, yet dreadfully treated bears in India".
With the support of her employer at Grovedale Vet Clinic who gave his permission and her willing colleagues, she organised a raffle to raise the funds. Shannon approached veterinary drug companies who kindly donated over $650 in goods as the prizes to be won.
The end result was that Shannon raised an incredible $770 which went directly to our partner organisation Wildlife SOS in India to support their broad-ranging activities to bring the bears into safe and cruelty-free havens. Their focus on the implementation of an integrated and multi-purpose program addresses long-term bear conservation in India.
Shannon has been an inspiration to us all at HSI and again we hope she and her colleagues will enjoy a sense of personal accomplishment in knowing that this program is continuing to be effective and their efforts will truly make a difference.
