ABOUT THE ARTIST

Virginia is a Kurrajong based artist, finding much of the inspiration for her work while bushwalking in the Blue Mountains and other wilderness areas, as well as in the simplicity of everyday objects and the complexity of the human condition. She is an active member of the Macquarie Towns Art Society, and Kiama Art Society, and has won awards both locally (in the Hawkesbury district) and elsewhere. Her works have been purchased for private collections and she is represented in several galleries, including Berry Art Gallery. Virginia has also taught art to community groups and works with the Disabilities Unit at the University of Western Sydney. Her preferred mediums are pastel, acrylic, watercolour and ink, and her artwork extends to mixed media, printmaking and sculpture. Virginia's art is more than just ‘picture making', having a strong narrative element based on her perceptions of life and the environment. “If someone responds to the image, and feels a connection with it” she says “then I feel I have succeeded.”
